Škoda expands its German dealer network

Škoda Auto plans layoffs in the Czech Republic but is expanding its dealer network in Germany. The brand aims to have 600 dealers in Europe’s biggest market in the mid-term, according to Škoda Auto Deutschland CEO Hermann Schmitt.

Last year, Škoda added 35 new dealers in Germany, bringing its total to 555. More than half the brand’s dealers in Germany sell only Škoda cars, with the level of exclusivity rising to 70 percent in the former East Germany. In 2009, Škoda sold 190,717 new cars in Germany, giving it a 5 percent market share.
