Romania to host 24 U.S. missiles

Romania will host three batteries each containing eight missiles as an element of the U.S.’ new anti-missile defense shield, news agency Mediafax reported March 5, quoting Romania’s President Traian Băsescu.

Speaking at a meeting at the Defense Ministry, Basescu stressed that the planned system is defensive. Basescu announced that Romania had agreed to host the interceptor missiles in February. Basescu said March 5 the system should be operational in 2015.
