The firm produced 2,526 buses, a year-on-year drop of 494 units. Most buses were exported to France, Slovakia, Italy and Germany. “In the context of the current global economic crisis, this is a good result. The fall in production is lower than the fall of the market,” CEO and board chairman Daniel Patka said. The firm makes Crossway coaches and this year plans a hybrid city bus Citelis, whose fuel consumption and CO2 emissions will drop by tens of percent. Iveco is part of the group Irisbus. It employed around 2,350 people at the end of 2009.

Iveco is not only a bus producer in the Czech Republic. The firm is supplying the Czech Army with 90 light armor vehicles as well. The Defense Ministry prepared this Kč 2 billion deal without public tender due to speed of delivery. The purchase will be carried out in two stages. The first includes 90 vehicles in battle, command and support modifications. The second stage includes another 30 vehicles, but this stage that hasn’t been confirmed yet, according to Defense Ministry spokesman Andrej Čírtek. Deliveries will be made with related logistical support. The Czech part of the project also includes offset programs up to 100 percent, with 20 percent in direct offsets to domestic defense industry.
