Volunteers from the nonprofit organization GE Elfun sell the homemade baked goods in the morning at the GE Money headquarters lobby.
“Volunteering events are an important part of our social responsibility program. We want to have active participation in the life of the people around us. We at GE Money find that good things should be promoted, and the baking days are one of the many ways colleagues want to contribute good things. I’m glad I had the opportunity today to support their efforts to help,” Peter Herbert, CEO of GE Money Bank, said in a press release.
The money raised from the bake sale has increased every year since the program was launched. In 2008 proceeds from the events totaled Kč 22,245 (€852) and in 2009 the total jumped to Kč 51,478.
The GE Elfun organization consists of volunteers from the staff of General Electric group companies from around the world. Support is aimed at three main areas: children and education, disadvantaged citizens, and the environment. Volunteers have also devoted time to a number of different activities including organizing blood donations, sports, entertainment and educational programs in schools, and response to natural disasters. In the Czech Republic, GE Elfun volunteers have supported causes such as assistant dog education organization Pomocná tlapka (Helping Paws), sponsoring animal care at the zoo in Liberec, North Bohemia, and contributing to the aid organization Adra.
