Carrefour and Marinopoulous announce Balkan JV

French hypermarket chain Carrefour and Athens-based private company Marino-poulos will form a joint venture to develop Carrefour-brand hypermarkets and supermarkets in the Balkan countries.

The company will be 60 percent owned by Marinopoulos and 40 percent jointly owned by company Carrefour Marinopoulos. A jointly owned subsidiary in Bulgaria will also become part of the new company. The 17-year partnership between Carrefour and Marinopoulos in Greece, Cyprus and from 2007, Bulgaria, comprises 35 hypermarkets, 219 supermarkets and 284 convenience stores as part of the Carrefour Marinopoulos subsidiary, with 2009 turnover of €2.4 billion.
